Golden Oyster Mushroom Mycelium (Pleurotus Citrinopileatus)
Also known as "golden oyster," Pleurotus citrinopileatus mushrooms (which have a pink form called Pleurotus Djamor) are Oyster mushrooms, long considered a rich food with nutritional properties and excellent flavor to combine with tasty dishes. There are three different varieties of these mushrooms: classic Oyster mushrooms, Golden Oyster mushrooms, and Pink Oyster mushrooms.
It is said that the ancient Egyptians used them for the most important dishes intended for the pharaoh, and that in the East, they were used as a natural antibiotic to treat seasonal illnesses due to their beneficial effects. Pleurotus has a flavor that distinguishes it from other mushroom species; it is very delicate and does not overpower but enhances and enriches flavors.
Today, it is possible to cultivate them from scratch: with the right mycelium and the right substrate to grow it on, producing them is a breeze!
Cultivation of Pleurotus citrinopileatus Mushrooms
Traditionally, the Pleurotus mushroom is cultivated on woody substrates such as fallen tree trunks and in very humid areas, preferably where the temperature ranges between 16 and 20°C without significant temperature fluctuations. However, it is also possible to cultivate them on substrates and in ready-to-use spawn.
Once sown, it takes about two weeks for the first Pleurotus mushrooms to appear. They are harvested only when they reach the desired size of the ear-shaped part, which ranges from 20 to 60 mm in diameter, and when maturation causes the color of the mushroom and its spores (which appear during development as a powder) to turn white.
Once planted, they are capable of fruiting multiple times, maintaining the properties that make them famous.
